❧ I used to think that finding the right one was about the man having a list of certain qualities. If he has them, we'd be compatible and happy. Sort of a checkmark system that was a complete failure. But I found out that a healthy relationship isn't so much about sense of humor or intelligence or attractive. It's about avoiding partners with harmful traits and personality types. And then it's about being with a good person. A good person on his own, and a good person with you. Where the space between you feels uncomplicated and happy. A good relationship is where things just work. They work because, whatever the list of qualities, you happen to be really, really good together.

❧ David m'a quitté il y a quatre ans, Keith était un ami de David, je n'avais jamais vraiment prit le temps de lui parler. Mais ce jour là où je me suis retrouvé dans le gouffre, sans aucun soutient moral, il est débarqué. Grâce à lui j'ai remonté facilement la pante. Il faut le dire, mes frères m'avaient abandonnés, surement détruit par la mort de l'aîné. Keith était là. D'accord il ne prendra jamais la place de mon frère, mais ce qui est sur, c'est qu'il remplit à merveille le trou qui a été formé par le décès accidentel de David. Je le sais, il garde un oeil sur mes fils et moi, surtout depuis la mort de Ryan. Je l'apprécie. Je ne sais pas et ne veux pas savoir où j'en serais sans sa présence. Clarence McCoy La petite sœur de David
Ton frère ainé et moi étions de la même génération. Nous avons grandi sur la même base, avions les mêmes références. En vieillissant, on s’est éloigné, chacun a fait sa vie même si nous gardions le contact. Puis il y a quatre ans, j’ai appris le décès de ton frère. Ce sont lors de ses funérailles que je t’ai vraiment parlé pour la première fois, tentant de te réconforter même s’il n’y a rien qui remplace la perte d’un être cher. Quand tes autres frères sont repartis chacun à leur propre vie, nous avons continué à nous voir. Je ne suis pas ton frère, je ne souhaite pas prendre sa place, mais c’est comme si je veille sur toi pour David, m’assurant de loin que tu ne manques de rien, te laissant vivre ta vie avec tes deux fils, mais étant prêt à répondre présent si jamais tu as besoin de moi.
